Why am I having problems adding a StumbleUpon button to blogger

If you're having trouble following StumbledUpon's directions to add a button to your blogspot blog, the problem is a simple formatting one on the StumbledUpon site. Their directions use some kind of screwed up single quotes where the first one looks different from the second one. They don't look like regular single quotes/apostrophes, they look like a 6 and a 9. You just need to replace them each with an apostrophe.

Maybe it's just a problem I'm having when I cut and paste. I dunno. But when I changed the stupid 69 type quotes to simple apostrophes, it worked.

These are the two pages you'll need

If it doesn't work, look for the single quote problem.

I ended up having to change all the fancy single quotes to apostrophes.

Long story short, I looked for this:

and stuck this right below it:

<div:if cond='data:blog.pageType ==”item”'>
<div style='clear: both;'/>
<!-- Place this tag where you want the su badge to render -->
<su:badge layout="5"></su:badge>

<!-- Place this snippet wherever appropriate -->
<script type="text/javascript">
  (function() {
    var li = document.createElement('script'); li.type = 'text/javascript'; li.async = true;
    li.src = 'https://platform.stumbleupon.com/1/widgets.js';
    var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(li, s);

Maybe, she said, “the problem is that I havesmart quotes turned on. And by ‘smart’ I mean stupid, freaking drive me insane these things out to be outlawed.

But if you want to add a Pinterest button to your blog on blogspot.com (blogger.com), you'll want to follow these directions:

I tried them, and the directions were really good. It was easy to do.

Finding a good web hosting site

Weebly looks good, but it might be more expensive than the others

Bluehost - everyone raves about it. It offers a Weebly platform. Maybe I should go with that. Too bad they don't have free web hosting so I could try it out.

Someone was telling me that squarespace would be better than Weebly if I'm just looking to do something simple. They don't have free web hosting either, but they let you try it for 15 days. I tried it, didn't like it. The interface was too, flashy, too much stuff moving around.

I think I'll probably go with Bluehost.

Check for broken links

Oh noooooes! I checked and have like a zillion, okay 20, broken links on my site! I'm even dumber than Chris Hugh, who had 19 broken links. Don't tell Chris, okay? Broken links make us look stupid and annoy the people (I'm being a little hopeful by going plural here) who visit. I bet it makes the search engines avoid us too, since our site is lame and irritating. Today I learned that there are tons of sites that check for broken links for free. Yay! Here's one. Chris better check his other sites too.
